Ziarre swallowed hard, trying to pull herself together before starting, "Fairies are a pretty new discovery to the Ministry of Magic, despite our being around for millions of years, but when they found out they had to 'find out more about the species'. Of course they couldn't just ask us, they had to dissect one." Ziarre paused here, she had never really spoke with such spite before but she did have reason to be angry at the Ministry of Magic. She took a deep breath and continued, "My parents were brutally murdered by the Ministry of Magic, so they could be examined." Here the fairy broke off, hearing the old door to the garden squeak on it's hinges. The toad-like figure of Dolores Umbridge entered the garden. Quickly Ziarre swooped down, picking up her staff and trying to compose herself at the same time. Her wings, which had frozen up until now started to beat again, as the fairy stood up, her back to the door, so as not to meet Umbridge's eyes.

Hearing the news of the ministry's and Umbridge's actions, Ed simply glared at the teacher. 'So. I'm being watched, am I? I hope they don't have guardian spells in the bathrooms. That would be disgusting. I hope they at least respect my privacy -' he glanced at Ziarre. 'Not meaning any disrespect. I have my own grievances with the ministry.' Breaking his gaze away from the potions teacher, spitting in the dirt where she couldn't see. 'Disgusting creatures that they are. And for goodness' sake, get up,' he added to Leo, closing his eyes. The necromancer retreated abruptly to the calm of his mind, brooding over the news silently. If the ministry was watching him, how much did they know? Did they know his sister was dead? Did they know he was the only heir? Did they know how much expectation rested on his shoulders, leaving him to bear it alone? Did they know his feelings for Ari? He stopped there, a shadow of a smile crossing his face. So what, he liked the Slytherin. Maybe he should have been in her house himself, but it hadn't ended out that way, obviously.

A breath of wind blew the fairy's hair across her face. Intently she looked up at the clear, midnight blue sky, scattered with stars and felt the cool breeze ripple through her dress. I don't belong here. I knew that from the first day and now I am in great danger. I've got to leave. she thought desperately and turning back to the others she nodded at the professor and said "We should be getting back to the Ball" before sweeping out of the door. But Ziarre didn't want to go back to the noisy, crowded hall, she felt a heavy feeling in her stomach and her skin was paler than normal. She had to leave. Now.

Leo slowly got to his feet, cheeks burning against his freckled skin. He watched as the three other first-years walked away and left him in the rapidly cooling night. He knew he'd never be able to speak to any of them again, never look them in the eye without feeling his face flush in shame. Arms hanging slack by his sides, Leo finally raised his head and walked back inside, past the merriment of the Ball, up to Griffindor Tower. *** Arienne quickly followed Ziarre and Ed, matching the necromancer's pace. Both seemed to be deep in thought; Ari blocked out Ed's thoughts - probably a little too much even for me at this moment, she told herself, not without a hint of glee - and instead focussed on the fairy. She didn't want to enter her mind: Pure magical power? I'd be crazy to try and take that on. But something's not right...

Ed looked at Arienne, sorrow showing on his face for the first time since he had first killed. All this time, all the sadness, all the grief had built up inside, searching for a time to escape, a time preferably when he was alone. Instead, it had to show now. The stress had finally burst out. The necromancer felt a tear on his cheek, descending to his chin and falling to the ground. He sniffed suddenly, and turned away to wipe another tear from his face. 'I... I have to go. The Ball's pretty much over anyway. I need some rest.'
He continued to mumble as he increased his pace, gradually beginning to run into the building. He tore through corridors, sometimes startling students, trying to find a lonely place to stop and be alone. At last, he came to a deserted corridor on the second floor, behind a tapestry decorated with a typical wizard duel. He slumped against the cold stone wall, his head on his hands which were, in turn, on his knees. The tears fell freely down his face. 'Dead... All dead... And so alone...' he muttered, the words obscured by sniffs and the muffled, almost strangled quality of his voice. 'No one can help me now,' he said, lifting his head slowly. 'No one.'

Ziarre watched Ed leave, half wanting to chase after and hug him, just to make him feel better. I'll see to him in a bit, but right now I have more pressing matters the fairy thought, her mind wandering to a small glass phial resting under her bed. "Come, there's still more to discuss." Ziarre said to Ari, leading the way to the first floor. Her robes glided along the corridors as the fairy made her way to a classroom. Finding one, she reached towards the locked door handle, her warm fingers immediately unlocking it as they turned the handle. Sweeping in she sat on one of the desks and turned to Ari. "So, why me?"

Arienne smirked. "You're the only fairy foolish enough to stick yourself right under the Ministry's nose. In some ways it's harder for them to get to you in Hogwarts...in other ways..." She let the sentence hang unfinished in the cold air.
"Still, I shouldn't think you're in too much trouble yet. Not thinking of...running away, were we?" She fixed her piercing gaze on Ziarre.

"I was hoping you could help me with that. You seem to have had experience with running away before. Seems to me there are only two possibilities: one, stay here in this wonderful castle and wait for the ministry to come and collect me, or run away and risk endangering others I know by hiding within their company. Each with get me caught, one way or another, now they know about me." The fairy's breath warmed the cold air, but a cool sigh now left her lips, for once in her life she could not be carefree. She could not leave her troubles behind and fly off to another country, to another mountain because they would follow her. She had to face them somehow, she had to face the consequences for her actions. Although Ziarre had never been around anyone before she had felt safe, secure and close to them, but now she felt more alone than ever. There was no one to help her. Everyone was against her, even her own date for this evening was the son of the Minister for Magic, who had come to find out more about her. Who could she trust now? What should she do?

Arienne shook her head as Ziarre finished. "We stay in Hogwarts. These walls are enchanted; the Ministry doesn't have as much power here, and it'll give us time to think. Meanwhile," she said briskly, stepping towards the door, "you're going to need as many friends as you can get, which means finding Venard. Now." Her voice shook slightly as she scanned the corridor outside - where the hell is he?

Ziarre nodded and jumped off of the desk, grabbing her staff from beside her as she did so. "He went his way." she said, leading the way down a corridor, up a few stairs and along numerous other passageways. She followed the black hole of happiness, until she reached the centre of it, the tapestry. Gently she pulled back the tapestry and stepped into the hidden corridor. "Ed..." her voice sang softly, crouching down and touching one of the hands on his tear stained face.

'What is it,' he muttered, trying to hide his face deep in his hands. 'Leave me alone.'

"I just wanted you to know that I'm staying. And that I'll always be here for you. And... " the fairy said, pausing for a moment "for you to have this." Taking one of Ed's hands from his face she pushed the small bottle her mind had drifted to earlier, into it. The glittering potion inside danced freely. "It was going to be your Christmas present, but... you need it more now." Standing up, Ziarre's eyes slid from Ari to Ed, her friends. She definitely needed them more now than ever. She'd do whatever it took to keep them. "Merry Christmas" Ziarre said, pushing a smile onto her face. It was the first Christmas she did not feel merry on. She felt trapped. She had to stay in these walls now if she were to stay safe. This is going to be hard the fairy thought, drifting out from behind the tapestry and along numerous corridors, up stairs and anywhere else her feet took her, memories rushing through her head as she did so.

Ed looked up at the bottle in his hand, confused. What is it? he thought to himself, still sniffing loudly. His hair drifted over his face, obscuring his features from Ari. He stood abruptly, surprising himself, suddenly resolute. I've got to say sorry. He hurried after the fairy, trying to look like he wasn't ignoring his date, and finally caught up with her - and stopped. What the hell am I going to say? 'Er...' He brushed the hair out of his face, and tried not to stutter. 'Sorry.'

"What on earth for?" Ziarre asked, slightly surprised, her intricate wings opening completely, shimmering slightly in the dim light.

'Fur running off like that,' the necromancer explained, scratching his neck distractedly. 'It was silly. I'm sorry. Er...' He looked at the bottle in his hand again, then held it up. 'What's this?' he asked, confused.

Ziarre smiled "Don't ask what it is, but what it does. It's a kind of potion, which will make you feel fantastic even when the world comes crashing down on you. I thought you could use it sometime. But be careful. It's only good for three uses. Use it wisely." With another smile the fairy turned the corner and drifted up more stairs, up to the Griffindor common room. Life goes on...

Ed looked at the bottle, and gave it a wry grin. Well, well, well. Trust Ziarre to pull through when you need it most, he thought to himself, and tucked his first present into an inside pocket. He turned, meaning to go back outside, but stopped. 'Oh, what's the use... I'd probably have to confront Leo,' he told himself, and turned back towards the Ravenclaw common room.

Oh. Fine. Be like that. GIT! Arienne's thoughts thundered down the corridor after Ed as she turned the other way, heading for the Slytherin dungeons.
OOC: My typical can't be arsed post. Bored now. As much as Christmas Eve lasting four months amuses me...

OOC: I think Christmas Eve is well and truely over. (Which means it's Christmas Invasion time! Woo! Ahem.) So, since this is pretty much tied up, I think we can all migrate somewhere else.
