Long ago, when times were reigned by epic battles between Kyogre and Groudon in the east, another part of the world was the scene of anarchy caused by pokémon. An island to the west of The Kyak Islands was the home of three mighty warriors. Regirock, Regice and Registeel lived on the island, named Minota by the local people. The three colossal legendary pokémon ran amock on the island. They fought each other, Registeel carved a volcano out, and lived there. Regice made a tundra where it could dwell, and Regirock lived in a desert.
One day, the final battle came, the three of them met in the middle of the island. Registeel’s volcano started to spew lava, the skies glowed red, and the basaltic lava slowly spread over the whole island, wrecking Regice and Regirock’s habitats. The three of them came together in an almighty battle, which ended when Regirock used its Earthquake attack and split the island into a group of smaller islands, which caused the volcano to float off separately. The three pokémon ended up on different islands. They were eventually caught by the locals of the former Minota and taken to the bottom of Mount Mystery, where they were all locked away in separate chambers.
Nowadays, Minota is rife with activity. It is now known as The Mintono Islands. The soil is very fertile from the basaltic volcano lava. The volcano is now dormant, and is known as Volcano Island. Regirock’s desert drifted off to the north and became Okto Island, surrounded by deep water, which is Regice’s tundra, melted.
The people of Mintono were governed by a strict parliament for many years, but found happiness when their president was assassinated and they joined The Kyak Islands, becoming The Mintono Islands, District of the Kyak Islands, or (DKI).
30 years ago, before the iron-fisted reign of the president, a pokémon league was set up on the islands. There are now 8 gyms. Trainers must register for the league with Professor Willow, where they receive a local pokémon, Piplup, Turtwig or Chimchar. They have to collect 8 badges to enter the league.
The league ends with a tournament of all the trainers who competed against the gym leaders, followed by a party and parade on Tropica Island, one of the region’s sunnier islands.
