This is the best library I've ever seen! I could spend all day in here! Dwyn smiled brightly to herself as she sat alone at a book-covered table deep within the Hogwart's library. She'd been grabbing every text off the shelves that had even remotely caught her attention, creating several piles that now towered above her head. Her most current interest was a thick, musty old book titled "History of the Animagus".
"I would love to have those sorts of powers..." Dwyn murmured to herself, running her hand over a picture depicting a man turning into a dog. "Maybe, if all goes well, I will someday." With that she gave a slight giggle and closed the book, heaving it off the table to set it upon one of her smaller piles - not that there actually were any. As she admired her collection proudly a thought suddenly occurred to her, and she pulled up one of her shirt sleeves reveal a standard, muggle-made digital watch. It wasn't exactly something she wanted others noticing, but it was too familiar to her to give up. "Let's see... Gah!" Her eyes went wide with shock. "Where did the time go?! Oh, now I've gone and missed flying lessons! This isn't good. Not good at all!"
Whirling around, she prepared to dash but slapped her forehead instead. "Dummy! You can't just leave all those books sitting out. Someone's got to put them away..." Upon turning back to face the piles, though, she almost jumped in surprise. The books were floating! No... Not just floating. They appeared to be returning themselves to their proper locations on the shelves. Those that she'd taken from other aisles zipped down the corridor and disappeared from sight. It was dumbfounding to watch. "And here I called myself a witch..." she chuckled in disbelief, watching the odd display for a few moments before at last turning once more. "Now then, flying lessons. I must find out who the professor is and apologize for missing it. I wouldn't want to get behind on the first day..."
Making her way down the aisle, she stepped out into a more open area of the library to find other students bustling around. None of them paid much attention to her, nor did she to them, but as she started off towards the exit a sudden jolt stopped her dead in her tracks. Her heart had begun pounding so hard she could hear it echoing in her ears, and her a cool, tingling sensation ran over her entire body. She stared horrified into space, thoughts yelling through her head, Not this again! But this time it was slightly different. It felt like something was pulling on her mind, calling to her; something that was slowly moving towards her. The frightened girl spun on the balls of her feet and frantically scanned the area, but there was nothing. Nothing but puzzled students staring back at her, that is. And yet the feeling was growing steadily stronger.
What is this? What’s going on with me?! she hung her head as she clasped it tightly between both hands. Her nails pressed against her skin, their pressure increasing as the frenzy of her mind did. She could almost feel them piercing her skin when laughter suddenly caught her ears.
“This looks great! I can still barely believe dragons are actually real! Can you?”
“Yes, I can! Now, will you keep it down already?! You don’t need to let everyone know you’re a muggle born!”
Dwyn looked up to find a pair of boys, who appeared slightly older than herself, walking past, neither of which seeming to have noticed her. The closet boy had a thick, blue leather book tucked firmly under his arm. Just staring at the text for a split second made the girl’s mind scream.
“Give me the book,” she blurted out quietly yet urgently.
The boys both skidded to a halt and rotated their heads to give her confused expressions. “Give you what?” the nearest one frowned.
“The book! Give me the book!” She repeated again, her voice rising to a cry.
Both boys looked stunned, the one from before yelping, “What are you talking about?! This book…?” He reached down to pull the blue book out from under his arm and hold it tightly in two hands. “Why should I-” But before he could finish Dwyn had already lunged forward to snatch it out of his grasp, jumping back and hugging it tightly to her chest. The boy gaped in disgust, “Bloody hell, it’s just a book! If you want it so bad, keep it! Psycho…” Breaking into a quick walk the boy headed directly for the exit, his friend lingering to watch Dwyn for a bit longer before too turning and hurrying away.
The girl watched them go, backing up to lean against a nearby bookshelf and heaving a deep sigh. All the frenzy she’d felt before was gone, though the adrenaline rush was had yet to simmer. She took a few moments to catch her breath, ignoring any strange looks spectators of the scene were still giving her. Why is this happening? And this book… she slowly loosened her grip to let the text fall forward in her arms and stared at the noticeably worn golden engraving of a dragonic skull on the cover. … What exactly is so special about this?

"I'm sorry to hear that" Ziarre said solemnly. She took hold of his hand, warmth and happiness flooding through her and into him. "Look, there's something I want to show you, hopefully it might take your mind off things." Ziarre let go of Ed's hand and whistled loudly. Immediately hooves thundered towards them. From around the lake a beautiful Granian appeared. The piebald horse (white with irregular black patches) came cantering towards them, his huge feet kicking up mud as he went. There was only one difference between him and a normal horse though, his wings. Beautiful white wings stretched on each of his sides from his shoulder. He came to a halt in front of the pair, Ziarre standing up to greet him. "This is Duke!" she said ecstatically, reaching up and hugging him. "He's my Granian. Isn't he lovely?"

OOC: Well, seeing as certain people decided to leave me and Arienne's pretty good flying skills out of the plot, I'll just have to...well...yeah. By the way Katie, Muggle electronic devices don't work in Hogwarts 'cos of all the magic in the air. Mehness.
BIC: Arienne had followed the stupid lovey-dovey couple, didn't I tell her to stay close?...In the lesson, that is. Oh whatever, she thought grumpily, Disllusioning herself and staying a good 10 feet away, blending her magical aura with those of the people walking past her so that Ed wouldn't notice her.
She listened in awe to the heartfelt histories of Ziarre and Vernard, almost wanting to run over and hug him when he told of his sister's death. I felt like that too, she wanted to say, when my father died, and no-one cared, no-one gave a shi- HE'S HOLDING HER HAND! Arienne jumped up, all enchantments broken. Fighting the urge to skin the two of them, she settled for stiding past and giving evils to the fairy, the necromancer and the horse. Not that it affected any of them.

OOC: XD Oh dear Josh, if you think you can't keep up with it, just make him fall ill or something, then he can be in the hospital wing for as long as you want. BIC: Ed beheld the Granian, his dark eyes examining the beautiful creature. Memories of his family still ran through his thoughts, but this animal seemed to be so calm, so peaceful that it didn't matter that much anymore. Or maybe that was just being near Ziarre - and the oh-so- casually-passing Arienne. The Slytherin's aura pulsed a violent blood-red in anger, overcasting the pale shade of pink. A harsh blue contrasted all of these, being closer to her body and therefore closer to her than the other emotions. Sorrow. Ed flinched slightly at her sneer, not used to all the attention he was getting from girls. Turning back to Ziarre and her horse, he mumbled, 'It's beautiful, but I... I really have to go. I didn't have any lunch, and I'm starving. I'd like to get the most out of dinner, if you don't mind.' He walked away from the fairy to join the rest of the first years entering the school once more, making his way to the hall and the food that awaited him there.

"Oh, Dear" Ziarre thought out loud, "was it something I said, or Arienne walking past?" Duke snorted and tossed his head. Giving him one last pat she conjured a carrot from nowhere, gave it to him and set off, after Ed, to the Great Hall. She walked into the warm hall with a usual smile on her face but stopped in the entrance. Everyone was looking at her, completely silent. After a few seconds of solid staring they began to whisper. Slowly Ziarre walked over to the Griffindor table and sat down next to the other first years. "What's going on?" she asked suspiciously, quite umcomfortable with all the pairs of eyes settled on her.

Ed sat down at the very end of the Ravenclaw table, avoiding everyone's gaze - only finding that he didn't have to, as Ziarre entered the Hall. He tried his best to ignore her, unlike the rest of the school, and settled down to eat some chicken wings. Karys was sitting some distance from him, but as soon as the whispering began, she got up and wandered over to the Gryffindor table. Standing right behind the fairy, she shouted, 'Is it true that you're a fairy?! Because I saw your wings!' Her voice was harsh, and full of cruel delight. Everyone fell silent almost immediately, waiting for her reply.

Even Arienne winced as she walked past the Hall and heard the sudden silence. This might be interesting, she thought as she slipped in, heading for the Ravenclaw table, seeing as all the Slytherins were focussing on Ziarre. "What's going on?" she asked Ed quietly.
Meanwhile, a small first-year by the name of Leo Scrimgeour finished his meal and left the Hall. He already knew the answer to Karys's question, and headed quickly to the Owlery, sure that he was doing the right thing...

'I think everyone's seen what Ziarre's concealing - or at least they've heard about it. Probably from Karys.' Ed spat the Ravenclaw's name as if it was poison, and scowled. How could he have possibly seen anything in her? 'Anyway, I wouldn't stay by this table for long. you wouldn't want to ruin a reputation,' he added, slightly louder, but his voice was full of regret. Arienne was very beautiful, whatever she thought... The necromancer quickly pushed such thoughts from his mind, looking at his meal once more.

A few heads turned at Ed's remark but soon returned to Ziarre. Ari shrugged and picked up her bag. It was nice having someone to talk to, even if only for half a minute... "Yeah, I...I guess," she said in defeat, her tone defrosting as she walked away.
She took her seat at the end of the Slytherin table and, ignoring the full plates before her, got her History book out and began to read.

Ziarre sighed, sensing that everyone knew her secret already there was no point in her denying it. "Yes" she said in a very small voice, so only Karys and the few griffindors around her could hear. Whispers spread down the Griffindor table, "It's true she's a fairy" and "Oh my gosh!" That wasn't too bad, her house would still accept her... hopefully. The only worry in Ziarre's mind now was of the whole school hearing and of her friends hating her for lieing to them.

Karys grinned, and put her hand to her mouth in mock shock. 'Oh my god!' she yelled, so the whole school could hear. 'So you really are a fairy? I knew it!' Grinning wildly, she ran back to her place on the Ravenclaw table. Most of the other first years had backed away from her seat, and the young girl found herself with only one companion: one of the girls she had been chatting with earlier. They immediately began a hushed discussion.
Ed sighed, floating some of the more delicious food on the table towards him. A few people found themselves with empty plates, but Ed didn't notice. He was deep in thought, thinking through all the things the girls had done to and with him since he got here. Since when did he attract all of this attention? Arienne connected with his mind, Ziarre saved him from death and showed him her secret, Karys was a lying, cheating gravedigger of a girl... He grinned as he reflected over what he knew of Arienne. The slytherin girl had an interesting history, the heir to two well-known families and with a lot of secrets to keep. Orphans were obviously more common in the wizarding world than anywhere else.
A short while later, when everyone had eaten their fill (and some more so), the students filed out of the hall. The crowd was buzzing with conversation about what had happened at the beginning of their meal and subjects they had discussed since, such as the actual existence of fairies. Ed avoided all of the groups, making his way to the Ravenclaw tower and bed. He needed to think about his family and what he would do in the future, now that his sister had died. More to the point, he needed to think about how she had been killed, and if it was murder, then how to avenge her death.

What? They're leaving already? Arienne quickly shut her book and tagged on to the end of the Slytherin line. She followed the crowd of whispering students - normally they'd have been talking the walls down, but since the appointment of Umbridge as Head of Slytherin...Ari shook her head in disgust as she walked past the Potions office.
Then she stopped.
"...No, this is important, I need to speak to the Minister...NO I WILL NOT leave a message with any member of his family, least of all...Of course I haven't said anything...Well she's not the only potential anarchist, is she? I mean...Of course I'm keeping tabs, what kind of a fool do you take me for-"
The flat, toad-like face of Doleres Umbridge suddenly appeared out of the door. Arienne stifled a gasp and flattened herself against the wall, hoping Umbridge wouldn't walk out and spot her.
She didn't. Ari felt the distinctive whizz of an Imperturbable Charm as the door locked, and she quickly uttered the password and climbed through the hole in the wall to the common room.

Ziarre shuddered. Her head felt weak and her stomach as heavy as lead. She sat through the whole of the meal completely still, wondering if this was the moment others in her position would burst into tears in. It seemed to last an eternity, everyone around her staring and whispering as if she wasn't even there. It was like she was a thing, a mere creature with no feelings. How could they do that, even her own house were making fun of her. When at last people began to empty out of the hall Ziarre began to come out of a dream. When she was the only one left in the room she stood up and walked idly out of the castle. It was dusk. Beautiful colours filled the sky and lifted Ziarre's heart slightly. I'll leave in the morning she thought to herself, wings appearing from her back in another burst of purple sparks. With complete ease she flew up to her dormitory window, opened it and flew in, with the cool night air. The fairy moved her sheets onto the floor, where she felt more comfortable and left her wings visible. She'd never wanted the next day to come so soon, but there's always a first time for everything.

Ed walked up the stairs slowly, shrugging off his robes as he entered the dormitory. Several of the boys were there already, most half ready for bed. Bloated from his meal, the young boy threw his pyjamas on and sank into the soft luxury of his four poster bed. Smiling, he hugged the pillow tightly and fell into a deep, yet disturbed sleep.
Corridors of darkness approached him, falling behind in his frantic search. He knew not what he was searching for, nor where he was, although his surrounding seemed increasingly familiar. Doorway after doorway loomed closer before being enveloped in the darkness, each one open and revealing nothing. This search seemed to have no end, and all Ed could do was keep running, keep calling...
Suddenly, the end of his journey came up abruptly. A large oak door stood between him and the room beyond, firmly shut and probably locked. This caused no problems for the necromancer. Summoning a dark memory, a ghost key appeared and turned in the lock, opening the room - and its terrible contents. Ed stared at what lay before him, falling to his knees and screaming. Why? WHY?
'WHY!'
Ed threw himself upwards, knocking his head on the headrest in front of him. Clutching his head in pain, he looked around him, remembering where he was. Breathing deeply in fear, he turned to lie on his back and think upon his dream. Was that what it was? Just a dream? It had seemed so real... But no, it couldn't have been. He couldn't even remember what he had been screaming at. What could have caused him to wake up like this? Was it something to do with his sister? With these thoughts and similar ones rushing through his head, he closed his eyes, returning to a fitful sleep full of screams and corpses.

Ziarre slept much better on the floor than the previous night in the soft bed. Many of her nights had been spent next to Duke in a field somewhere, so waking up on a hard floor was much more familiar. The fairy's dreams had been full of sunlight, flying and the countryside, which reassured her that everything was going to be alright again. Waking up at dawn again she opened the windows to the fresh morning air. After dressing and adding a little more peach to her wings Ziarre drifted down to the great hall, wondering if this meal would be better than that of the previous evening. Entering the Hall she held her head high and glided over to the Griffindor table. Sitting near some other people she helped herself to some toast and watched the cloudy sky above her head, feeling a lot more confident but a little uncomfortable at the number of stares that her wings were receiving.

Ed woke from his fitful sleep, his sheets tossed far across the room by his violent struggles while sleeping. Lying there for a while longer, he took in his surroundings. The other boys in his dorm were asleep, most grinning widely in their fantasies. His belongings were strewn across the room, apart from one: the photo. His whole family were now displayed in it, all transparent. They seemed to be pressing forwards, trying to reach their last surviving relative, trying to tell him of their plights as ghosts - but not at Hogwarts. Ed had made sure that the place could not be penetrated by the ghosts of his family when he entered. Swinging onto the floor, Ed stood and strode into the bathroom to change into his robes and generally tame his hair. Having done so, he flung himself down the stairs idly and went to the Great Hall for breakfast. Seeing Ziarre in all her glory, he grinned to himself and settled down at his usual place at the far end of the Ravenclaw table.

Kohana had been in the Common Room for the whole night, "So if I flick the wand in a certain way, then I can perform the same spell, but in a different way... That makes no sence!" Eventually she gave up and went down to breakfast. "Okay, now why did I miss dinner last night?" Ko said sitting down next to Ziarre. "Hey, what's up?" She said completely blanking out the stares, "Listen, ignore them, if they can't take the truth, then they're just a bunch of idiots, or as I like to say, baka, that's japanese for idiot." Kohana smiled at Ziarre, "Cheer up, 'kay."

"Actually I'm feeling a lot better. I that if they can't accept that this is me then that's their problem." Ziarre answered "Did you know then? How many people knew?"she paused "oh well it's out now." she said with another smile. I'll see how today goes before making a decision about leaving the fairy thought before picking up her stuff and going off to her first transfiguration lesson, following her unique sense of direction.

Ugh. Herbology. With Vernard. Arienne tucked her timetable back in her robes and spent the next 2 hours in Greenhouse 1 sitting as far away from Ed as possible, mulling over the events of the previous night. Her Head of House was up to something - 10 to 1 it was connected with the Ministry - and she was pretty certain it was to do with Ziarre. Or Vernard, she thought suddenly. Or even me... The lesson finally ended and Ari walked slowly back to the castle, having said not a word to the boy filling half her thoughts.

"Running late... Hungry!" Dwyn whimpered to herself as she tore down the stairs towards the Great Hall for breakfast, the blue dragon book tucked tigtly under her arm. She'd eaten a rushed supper the night before and had spent the rest of the evening secluded in the Library looking over the text until getting kicked out. By the time the girl had returned to the Griffindor Common Room her mind was so sluggish that she'd failed noticed that anything was arise.
I don't get it... Even after spending the entire evening reading this thing I still can't find anything special about it. Was all of that just the beginning of some latent mental disorder? Dwyn frowned, glancing down at the book for a moment as she hurried on. From what she could tell it was simply a book detailing the various species of dragons around the world - interesting, but nothing out of the ordinary. Regardless of that, though, she couldn't bring herself to put it away. There was just something about it that wouldn't stop nagging at the back of her mind... something she was missing...
"Almost there..." the first year muttered as she hopped down from the final step into the main hallway, but the moment she turned towards the Great Hall she stopped dead in her tracks. Coming out of the Hall at that very moment was Ziarre - with WINGS! Dwyn's eyes went wide. "HOLY-!" she couldn't help but yelp, staring at the purple-winged girl in awe. Her yelp must've been louder than she'd thought because Ziarre abruptly stopped walking and turned to face her. "You... You have wings!" Dwyn yelped again, almost stumbling over as she raced forward to join her friend. She skidded to a stop and stared at the wings for a moment, looking back to Ziarre's face and beaming brightly with excitement, "That is so COOL! Actual, honest to goodness wings! You're amazing, Ziarre!"

"I'm glad someone thinks so" Ziarre answered, glad to see a familiar face being so friendly and not whispering behind her back. She'd been so wrapped up in Ed that she had completely forgotten how fantastic her other, Griffindor, friends were, especially Dwyn. "Didn't you hear about me being a fairy? Everyone else did" she added, looking down at her feet as she thought of Karys. "It's obvious that I'm not wanted here though, so" the fairy took a deep breath "I'm going to leave at the weekend. As much as I'd like to stay, if everyone else doesn't want me here then I may as well go." she finished, looking into Dwyn's eyes for her reaction.

"What?! That's ridiculous!" Dwyn yelped, finding her voice rising even more than before. "You can't leave! You belong here at Hogwarts just as much as everyone else does! Anyone who says otherwise deserves a good kick in the pants." She clenched her fists tightly and glared at the thought of other students making Ziarre doubt herself. The Canadian knew all too well what it was like to feel like an outsider; like you just didn't belong. It was how she'd felt when she'd first arrived at Hogwarts until Ziarre had made her feel welcome. Even though she'd barely met Ziarre two days ago Dwyn knew she was a kind hearted person; someone she could rely on and trust. The fairy was just the kind of friend she wanted at a far-from-home place like this.
When Dwyn noticed students in the hallway stopping to see what all the yelling was about she took a deep breath to calm her nerves and dropped her voice. As she continued on the sternness and resolve of her tone remained, though. "Ziarre, you're the nicest person I've met since arriving here, and this is a great school. It's not fair that ignorant jerks get to be here while people like you are driven out. If you want to stay here then stay. Don't let what others say or do decide for you."
The girl stared back at her friend in hopes that her words had somehow gotten through to her. In the end she knew there was nothing she could do. It was up to Ziarre to decide.
