OOC: alright the time has FINIALLY come for the Yule Ball... yes i have been talking of nothing but the Yule ball for months and yes i am absolutely extatic that it is finally here BUT firstly a few instructions: you can post a piccy of the dress/dress robes which your character will be wearing OR you can just describe it.... up to you. Secondly Katie isn't here so her character has..... gone home. and thirdly ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN within reason so just have fun! BIC: The lilac tinged sky played a background to the picturesque crescent moon steadily rising in the east. The castle grounds were covered in thick, white and gleaming snow, freshly fallen, to complete the atmosphere. By the time Ziarre was ready the common room had nearly emptied, everyone too excited to wait any longer and be “fashionably late”. Footsteps echoed down the long passageways and luxurious robes glided over the cold stone steps as Ziarre made her way towards the buzzing hall. Her lavender hair tumbling down one side of her face but stayed loosely clipped on the other. Purple wings rippled in the castle’s cool air. The fairy’s hands softly gripped a crescent moon staff, reminding the fairy of the skies and stars watching them all night. Taking a deep breath Ziarre stepped out, on to the wide staircase. Almost immediately the crowd fell silent, then a few whispers and glances were exchanged before the whole hall erupted into talking again. The fairy’s face broke into a relieved smile and she even let out a small giggle. Quickly she scanned for Leo and catching sight of him, gazing at her, she made her way through the large crowd.

OCC: Okay after much thought this is what Ko's dress is gonna look like I thought this cos she's half japanese so, what the heck let's give her a kimono ^^ on the other hand her hair isn't done like that so ignore everything apart from the kimono =D BIC: Kohana walked into the great hall by herself. She had a head band in her hair and had a fan in her belt. "Well, where is he?" She said angrily, "He said he'd meet me here." Ko saw Ziarre with Leo, being watched by the crowd, They all know her secret, but they don't know why I understand...A boy stepped out of the crowd, he was about a foot taller than Kohana, had black hair and lilac eyes. He knows, cos he's the same "Hiya Nicky," Ko said in a slightly high pitch voice, "I didn't think you were here yet." "I wouldn't miss this for the world." Nicky said and took Ko's hand and guided her over to near where Ziarre and Leo were standing.

OOC: Disregard that hair; that'll be explained. And he wears no mask. BIC: Ed combed his hair down into its usual stylised appearance, the electric blue spikes dangling just above his shoulders. However, the rest of his appearance was very different. He wore a suit styled to Victorian fashions: a long, black cape with a high collar hung from his shoulders, ending around his ankles; under this he wore a short black coat and then a dark brown waistcoat, and finally a white shirt. A pair of throughly ironed trousers finished the look. Everything had a high collar, and the first year looked unnaturally comfortable in the old-fashioned clothes. Smiling at his reflection, Ed straightened his clothes and left the bathroom. Almost jumping down the stairs to the common room, he left the Ravenclaw tower and jogged merrily to the Entrance Hall. Many people were waiting here for their partners, and several other Ravenclaws paced around waiting. Completely relaxed, Ed wove his way through them to see if Arienne was here yet. Suddenly, he saw Ziarre among the crowd - or rather, in a large space in the crowd. Everyone still seemed to be trying to avoid her. Then again, she looked spectacular! So beautiful, that he caught himself staring at her for a full two seconds. shaking himself, he smiled and made his way over to her. 'Having a good night so far, then,' he said, ignoring her date completely.

"It's great!" the fairy, a broad grin on her face. Her wings fluttered slightly, her dress swirling around her as she turned to face Ed. "This is Leo" she said, introducing her date to the Ravenclaw. "So... you look very handsome, do you like my dress?" Ziarre asked, twirling her staff idly.

Still grinning, Ed took in the whole of Ziarre's dress. Her wings looked absolutely perfect, and the dress was stunning. 'You look... What can I say? Spectacular. Stunning. Superb. And all the rest of it,' he added, chuckling slightly.

Leo had said very little since he had sauntered into the Hall, his classic red-and-gold Griffindor dress robes shimmering in the slight moonlight from the enchanted ceiling, strawberry-blonde hair in scruffy perfection. Well, to be precise, he hadn't really said a thing from the moment he saw Ziarre. He had, of course, muttered the pleasantaries drummed into him since he was able to speak - the rest of the time he spent meekly following the fairy, nodding to familiar faces as they swept past. To face Venard. Leo suddenly realised that he had never been in close proximity with the necromancer, and he jerked imperceptibly out of his reverie, his alert eyes contrasting with his nonchalant appearance. He remembered the message from his father: Keep an eye on them. You know the three I mean. And Leo had obeyed without question - anything to keep in touch with his increasingly distant father. Any reasoning he had tried led back to the same answer: surely the Minister of Magic would always know best? But now, looking at Ziarre and Ed's lively, normal conversation, Leo began to wonder... *** Ari let out yet another hissed curse and threw the hapless beautification book at the curtains, only just remembering that the ward was double-sided - "Ouch!" She quickly checked her forehead where the heavy tome had bounced violently back, then glanced at the small clock on the wall. Damn. Ari sighed, picking up the battered photograph she had been using as inspiration. Her mother smiled back at her, twirling around to show off the perfect dark emerald dress that Ari had been trying to recreate for the last three hours. It was long, elegant, meticulously embroidered - and the enchantments... Ari had smiled as she read the long list on the back of the photo, then left it face down so that she could look them up. And so she didn't have to face her mother, so happy and beautiful and alive... The photo fell from her hand. Ari resolutely picked up her wand and let down the wards on her bed, Banishing the books and various garments back to their rightful places. "I'm not going," she said in a deflated tone to the mirror that a previous occupant had left on the bedpost - with a very strong Sticking Charm, as Ari had found out on the first night. The mirror clicked its tongue. "Dresses don't make a lass," it answered firmly. When Ari didn't respond, the mirror sighed and lowered its voice. "Alright my girl, I'll make you a deal. Go meet that strapping young lad of yours tonight, and I'll see what I can do as regards that Riddling heritage of yours, get my meaning?" Ari looked up in surprise, unaware that this particular mirror had some properties of portraits. "And if I don't..." "You won't get a decent night's sleep 'til next Christmas." The mirror chuckled. "You never wondered why this bed was dustier than the rest put together?" Ari rolled her eyes and dragged herself off the bed. "Whatever," she muttered, depositing a long black nightie on the bed. *** A few rushed incantations later, Ari stalked out of the dormitory, ignoring the mirror's cries of, "A bit of colour wouldn't kill you!" Still, she was relatively proud of her efforts: the nightie was now even longer, with a slight trail behind her, elegant hanging sleeves, and an emerald sheen that caught the candlelight in the corridors; aware of the negligible assets she possessed on her chest, Ari had cut a small v-neck into the dress, then draped a glittering black shawl that had previously been her school scarf over herself accordingly; her hair was combed through and lay loose to her waist. She took a deep breath. No, I don't care that I'm an hour late. Yes, I have come in my nightclothes. No, I will not mind if Ed has given up and hooked up with Ziarre...Ari drifted into the crowded Hall, immediately spotting Ziarre's wings, with... Oh. Yeah. Totally expected. She slipped past the other students, subconsciously adding to her list: Yes, I will control myself. No, I will not throw up from the pungent mix of perfumes and hormones. No, I will not hex the entire student body to oblivion. Finally she reached Ed, Ziarre and the tall boy she had identified a few weeks ago as Leo, son of Rufus Scrimgeour. He'd been giving her strange looks ever since that Ministry owl flew in... Ari found her voice at last - then lost it again at the sight of Ed's 19th century outfit. Stifling a giggle, she admitted to herself that he did look rather fetching... "Having fun?" she enquired, getting a jolt of satisfaction from Leo's jump.

Ziarre blushed slightly at Ed's comment, half doubting what he said and wishing that Leo would comment on her dress, or at least say something! When Ari turned up Ziarre's smile returned though. "Yeah, it's great! You look great! Wow, it even has a green shimmer!" the fairy exclaimed, ending in another small giggle. "I thought Ed would ask you" she added with another grin. Then, trying to include Leo a bit more she asked "I wonder when the dancing's gonna start." Over the past few weeks there had been one or two dancing lessons in which they had learned ball room, some more successfully than others. Ziarre had picked it up quickly, making life easy for whoever was stuck with her as their partner. Once this had been Leo, but he seemed so nervous that he could hardly look at her. So far, during the ball, though there had only been talking, which was beginning to bore the fairy.

"I'm sure it'll start soon," Leo answered, a lot more confidently than he felt. It would be so easy to just let your hair down, have a good time... he thought to himself; then another voice reminded him, Don't forget what you're here for. You need information -
"My father needs information," he corrected himself angrily, not realising the words had transferred themselves to his mouth. He coughed violently and sheepishly came up blushing - but unafraid. He would tell her. Tell them all. Tonight.
Ari gave a small smile to Ziarre and moved closer to Ed. Maybe this isn't going to be so bad after all...
Just then the music started: the sweeping strings from the opening of the Blue Danube filled the Hall, and the students moved to the sides to allow the Head Girl and Boy the centre to open the dance. They were soon joined by the Prefects and a few of the teachers: there was a sutble grin on Professor Longbottom's face as he took to the floor with Professor Weasley, both of whom seemed to be dancing to their own memory rather than with the music of the moment; Professor Clearwater had invited her husband to the Ball, and they were now dancing happily away; Professor Lupin was whirling a lady with shocking pink hair round the Hall; and Professor Granger was in the capable arms of a Weasley, sailing across the dancefloor.
Slowly the other students began to dance, rather more unsteadily than the older ones. Leo smiled warmly at Ziarre and offered his arm. "Shall we?" he said, his eyes bright and genuine.
Ari looked up at Ed, wondering how good a dancer he was. She wasn't too shabby herself, and the extra lessons had only served to awaken the familiar steps she'd learnt when she was seven. She opened the mental connection. Are you coming, or do I have to drag you? she thought cheekily, not bothering to hide her relief and delight that he hadn't given up on her.

Ed grinned at Arienne, slightly uncomfortable, but ready all the same. She looked absolutely stunning, better than Ziarre did. In his mind, at least. 'Madam,' he said slightly cheekily, bowing and offering his hand. 'May I have this dance?' The long cape, although heavy, seemed to whirl around his body as if it was the lightest material in the world, giving him that dream-like feel he'd been trying for while getting dressed. One of the figures in his many photos had deemed it necessary to bark out instructions to useless spells to get the Dead to dress him, but the first year had stuffed his ancestor back into his luggage. Why make the evening depressing when he was going to dance with Ari?
Suddenly, a clattering of heavy clothes and shoes on stairs interrupted the smooth music, grabbing everyone's attention as a second year girl tumbled down the stairway straight into several dancers. Quickly righting herself, she grinned, completely embarrassed. 'Er... Sorry?' she said, and turned to the boy at the top of the stairs (who was, apparently, killing himself with laughter). 'Rob, shut up and get down here,' the girl yelled, stomping her foot. 'And quit laughing!'
'S-sorry, Helena,' choked Rob, coming quickly down the stairs and almost tripping over the tails on his coat. 'I won't push you again.' Winking, he swept her to the floor immediately, the two gryffindors stumbling into other dancers with every other step.
OOC: Hehe, might as well bring Josh's and my old characters into this ^_^

Ari smirked and curtseyed back. "You may." Smarmy bastard, she added, before closing their mental connection - and the distance between their hands.
In a daze, she felt herself being led to the dancefloor, then the slight pressure on her waist that sent a blush up her face. Ari smiled up at Ed and placed her hand on his shoulder, wondering if her touch had the same effect on him as his did on her...

"We shall" Ziarre answered, her eyes also bright and full of joy. She took his arm and allowed herself to be led onto the floor, her dress flowing beautifully behind her. As she walked the fairy let her staff disappear in a wisp of smoke, leaving her hands free for the dance. She was by far one of the best dancers in the Hall, and couldn't wait to show it, not competitively of course though. Ziarre turned to face Leo and laid a light hand softly on his shoulder, waiting for him to take her waist and lead the dance.

Kohana was sitting with Nicky at the opposite side of the main hall to where her friends were hanging around, "So, you really don't mind?" Ko said looking at Nick in the eyes. "Truely, I have never met anyone with that kind of power, you are unique, in my mind at least, I love unique people." Ko leant on Nicky's shoulder and closed her eyes. "You don't mind, even though it's really dangerous?" "Not at all" "Can we go over to the others?" Ko said looking up at Ziarre and the rest of the group. "Sure."
Ko and Nicky stood up and walked over to the others. "Hi guys, how's it going?" Ko said, smiling at the group.

Leo smiled back at the couple. "We're doing alright - you guys had better hurry though, there aren't many slow dances left," he said with a wink, before placing his hand gently on Ziarre's waist, marveling at the feel of her robes, and leading the waltz around the Hall.

Nicky took Ko's hand and looked down into her eyes. They were misted over strangly and her pupils were more like slits than usual, "Are you sure you want to stay?" "I'll be fine," She said, "I've just got a bit of a headache, so no big spins, 'kay" Ko walked with Nicky over to where other people were dancing and joined in.
It wasn't long before Ko collasped though. It was a fast reaction to a quick move that had to be made in the dance, Nicky had spun Kohana round and she fainted. Before long there was a crowd of people gathered round, Nicky in the centre of the circle in the middle, still holding Ko's hand. "I should have taken her upstairs." He whispered. Teachers started to bundle into the crowd, one of them pulled Nicky away from Ko. "She needs to go to the hospital wing." The teacher had said, "You need to sit down." Nicky hadn't noticed what teacher it had been, all he did was pull away from them and chase after the teachers who were taking Ko upstairs.

Ed ignored the crowd gathering around the couple, instead continuing to spin along the dance floor with ease. He'd skipped the lessons because of yet another potions essay, but that didn't matter much - he'd learnt how to dance from a few thousand ghosts at the annual Deathday party on Halloween. Smiling dreamily at Arienne, he swooped past Helena and Robert (who promptly tripped over his foot) and carried on to join the few left by the orchestra. The final chords of the Blue Danube rang out across the Hall, several people stopping to clap them. Bringing their dance to an end, Ed took his hand from Ari's and bowed once more. 'D'you want a drink, or a rest or something?' he said after straightening, his grin seemingly fixed in place after the heat of the dancefloor.

Ziarre stopped and turned to the orchestra and clapped with the others, smiling as she did so. Some people left the floor, while others joined, ready for the next dance. "Oh, my favourite!" the fairy exclaimed as the orchestra began to play music for the foxtrot. I hope he doesn't mind but I can't miss this dance! the fairy thought, as she turned back to face Leo.

"Wha...oh, okay, cool," Leo stuttered slightly. He'd been far away, trying to figure out exactly what he was going to say - maybe even say it now, get it over and done with - it can wait, he told himself with a trace of apprehension, as he grinned back at Ziarre and took her hand once more.
On the other side of the Hall, Ari nodded, her sallow skin slightly flushed from the dance. "A drink would be nice," she said airily - a tone of voice she'd never really used before. Yup, Ziarre is definitely rubbing off on me, she thought, trying to inject the usual helping of sarcasm into her being: she wasn't sure if she'd function properly without it.

Ed grinned, promptly rushing off in excitement to the table holding the large number of non-alcoholic punches and teas. The young slytherin seemed to set off an immediately hyper reaction in him now, giving him too much positive energy - at least, in his view. He never thought he'd ever be this excited about one of the opposite sex, and the fact that he was a ravenclaw as well - many of his classmates had started to avoid him. But that was usual, for a necromancer emerging from centuries of concealment. Maybe he was just being paranoid.
Scooping some green tea into cups (the punches had a few people reeling around the floor, so it had probably been spiked), Ed contemplated about his sudden ecstaticness, trying to find a logical reason behind it. He knew he wouldn't be able to, but still, it was becoming a habit of his to be logical. Grinning wildly still, he whirled around taking care not to spill any of the hot liquid on himself and returned to his dance partner. 'Your green tea, madam,' he said, handing a cup to Ari.

Ko sat up in the hospital wing and looked around her, "What happened." She said out loud. She felt alot smaller than she usually did and tried to get up. "Don't Ko." Nicky said. He was sitting at the end of the bed, "You're not in a fit state to move really." He stood up and moved closer to where Ko was sitting in the bed. "You had a fit. I think it came from me spinning you too hard. I'm sorry." "Don't, it's my fault really. I shouldn't have gone down, I knew I wasn't feeling right, I should be more responsible." "The girl should be fine to go downstairs, if she wishes." someone said from the door, but it was too dark to make out any figure. "What do you say? One more dance?" Ko said swinging her legs from the bed. "Sure, if you're up for it, so am I."
They made their way back down to the great hall, Kohana wasn't walking in a straight line but her eyes were now focused and her headache had gone. "I hope the others didn't worry too much." Ko said looking at Nicky as they walked into the hall.

Ziarre almost fell into a dream as she was lead across the floor by Leo. A great sense of freedom swept over her, not unlike the feeling created when flying. The dance ended and Ziarre clapped the orchestra once more, feeling slightly tired, but not exhausted since her body was built for endurance and flying long distances. "Shall we get a drink?" the fairy asked, fixing a loose hair with a mere point of her finger.

"Yeah - you like green tea?" Leo asked, leading Ziarre over to the table near Ari and Ed. His hands only shook a little as he poured the tea into a cup for Ziarre, then brought a glass of water to his own lips, his throat dry with anxiousness.
Suddenly, with a crash of chords, the orchestra parted to allow the new source of sound through: Muggle disco balls appeared out of nowhere and focused their flashing lights on the rock band that had taken centre-stage. Leo gulped the last of his water down and placed it on the table, where it promptly fell and crashed to the vibrating stone floor. Deep breaths. Now or never.
"Ziarre...Ed...I need to tell you something. In private," he stuttered, very much aware of the glare Ari was sending his way. She coughed subtly, and Leo reluctantly met her piercing eyes.
"If it's anything to do with the Ministry, I already know half of it," Ari said slowly, taking in the shock in Leo's face. She smirked at turned to Ed and Ziarre. "We might as well get some fresh air. I hear the rose garden is beautiful in moonlight. You coming, Leo?" she said casually to her shoulder. Leo nodded hesitantly, inwardly groaning.

Rather confused, Ziarre finished her tea and followed obediently, delicately plucking her staff out of thin air as she left the hall. The first years walked through the entrance hall, past a couple of fourth years making out, and to a small doorway. They all filed through and into the cool night air. Ziarre, in her observant ways, looked all around her. The garden was filled with rose beds and small benches. Small benches were dotted around and a small frozen fountain was right in the centre. The whole garden was lightly dusted with glistening snow, the frozen roses caught in their winter form, entwined with one another. The thin moon shone brightly down on them with a silver light. Ziarre stepped forward, towards one of the rose beds, reaching out a hand to a very small bud, trying to break through the winter gloom. As her delicate, long fingers got closer it seemed to glow, before erupting into a huge, peach blossom. Smiling slightly Ziarre turned back to face the other three, "So.... what's this about the Ministry of Magic?", she asked, her great wings flapping slowly in the moonlight.

Leo glanced nervously behind him, quickly looking away when Ari, amusement dancing from her features, caught his eye and raised a mocking eyebrow. Sighing, he turned to Ziarre.
"The Ministry of Magic - well, my father to be exact - asked me to do something for them - for him," he started lamely. He could almost feel Ari rolling her eyes behind him. "It was at the start of term - y'know, after...after..."
"For the love of Circe!" Ari hissed. Glaring at a sheepish-looking Leo, she pushed herself off her bench and faced Ed and Ziarre. "He's been spying on you. Him and Umbridge, ever since the first flying lesson. Scrimgeour Senior didn't know you were a fairy until he-" she gestured at Leo, "wrote and told him. The Ministry's...interest in fairies is ill-concealed: you're lucky you haven't been carted off already," she added, sending another glare Leo's way.
Leo clenched his fists, trying to think of a reasonable explanation. "That's not true! They're only rumours, whatever you've heard..."
"You had your chance to talk," Ari cut in, mildly irritated at Leo's nerve. "And as for you," she turned to Ed, "well, necromancers are hardly top of the Ministry's most trustworthy list. Umbridge's been keeping an eye on you and your family ever since you were accepted into Hogwarts. I think - perhaps Scrimgeour here can verify - that she'll jump at any chance to expel you. Or worse," Ari finished.
Leo bit his lip. What's left to say? Finally he nodded in defeat. "Looks like you've got it all covered," he said curtly. He turned once more to Ziarre. "I'm not expecting any forgiveness. Just know that...that I didn't want to. When I found out what was going on...I really didn't want to." The wind ruffled his previously immaculate hair as Leo looked down at his shoes, refusing to meet the fairy's gaze.

Ziarre froze, her breathing fast as tingles swept down her body. Her beautiful staff dropped to the ground, but she was still frozen. Her stomach felt empty and her body weaker. Piercing screams filled her head and her eyes widened. The fairy's jaw shook as she sat down on the nearest bench to her. Se didn't look at any of the others, more down at her feet and her hands, which were shaking violently. "You don't know what you've done, do you?" she asked Leo, her voice trembling.

Leo's head jerked up at the horror in Ziarre's voice. "I...well...I didn't mean..." His voice faded as he saw the state the fairy was in. Slowly, the boy fell to his knees, not wanting to offend Ziarre further - and also so that his legs wouldn't collapse without him knowing. "Tell me," he whispered.
